My name: Lisa
My career: Astronomical
image processor
How do I contribute to the Hubble
Space Telescope mission?
I am an astronomer and an artist. I make three-color scientific and aesthetically interesting (artistic) images for the Hubble Space Telescope.
What or who inspired me to really go after the profession I am in now?
Astronomy Professor Ron Chaldu, SUNY (State University of New York) Oswego (now retired).
What I like about my job:
My work is very presentation oriented. I work on an image, and then it is completed, and I move on to the next image. I have worked on over 200 images over the last 10 years. My work place is very flexible, lots of vacation, can pick my own hours, work from home.
What school subjects do I use at work?
Astronomy, a little bit of math, computers, and psychology in my dealings with people.
Resources I would recommend checking out to learn more about my career:
Because the pictures are so enjoyable (yes I can brag!), any current book or website about astronomy. Specifically, web sites about the Hubble Space Telescope, and my project — the
Hubble Heritage Project.
What I like to do when I'm not working:
Spend it with my husband and kids. Read. I watch very little TV (two shows a week) or movies (rent one every other week). Take singing/piano lessons.
