My career: Education specialist
How do I contribute to the Hubble
Space Telescope mission? I work with a team that uses Hubble discoveries to develop instructional resource materials for K-12 educators and students. I also help develop content for the Amazing Space web site and help administer NASA grant programs. What or who inspired me to really go after the
profession I am in now? I began my career as a classroom teacher and was inspired to go into the education field by both family members and personal experiences. I was also lucky enough to have a lot of great teachers in school, and they inspired me as well. What I like about my job:
I like working with a lot of different talented people who I can learn new things from. I also like working for a program that helps teachers and students all over the country.
What school subjects do I use at work?
Reading, writing, science, and math. Resources I would recommend checking out to
learn more about my career: Many educators belong to a professional organization called the National Education Association (NEA). The NEA sponsors a program called "Future Teachers of America." "Future Teachers of America" clubs help middle and high school students learn more about teaching as a career choice.

My career:
Satellite systems engineering manager How do I contribute to the Hubble
Space Telescope mission? I manage the Hubble Space Telescope Flight Operations Team (FOT). I also oversee the procedures the FOT uses to command and monitor the telescope 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I work Mondays through Fridays and represent the FOT at meetings. I also inform the FOT about upcoming hardware and software changes. I occasionally work the nightshift to communicate with FOT staff and to train for Hubble's servicing missions.
What or who inspired me to really go after the
profession I am in now? Physicist Sally Ride's historic ride into space as the first female American astronaut inspired me to major in physics in college. After graduation, Ed Venter, who was looking for a physics major, offered me a job on a rotating shift as a Hubble Space Telescope (HST) Flight Operations Team Flight Controller. That work inspired me to remain with HST Missions Operations. What I like about my job:
I like working for NASA in satellite space operations. I like helping coworkers and employees. I like continuously learning something new every day. I play a small role in ensuring that the Hubble Space Telescope continues to operate properly, taking awesome images and discovering the universal secrets that have rewritten science books and disproved theories.
