The design of the Snow solar telescope

Because the Sun is so close and bright, solar telescopes do not need huge mirrors to collect light. Instead, a solar telescope needs a very long focal length in order to produce a finely detailed image. At the focal point, instruments study only a few wavelengths of the Sun’s light at a time. The Snow Telescope is unique for a solar telescope in that it was laid out horizontally and it does not have a tube.
