This activity requires the latest version, 7.0.2, of the Shockwave player. If you needed to upgrade and are now experiencing any of the following problems, refer to the detailed Shockwave Installation Instructions.
- The error: No application/wrong MIME type specified for application image/director-x
- You are stuck in the upgrade loop: Every time you download the Shockwave Player, you get a message saying that you need a new version, and things keep going around in circles.
This activity makes extensive use of Macromedia's Shockwave ActiveX component. If this is not installed or an old version exists, the above message will occur. The browser may attempt to download an updated version and it still will not run.
The solution is to go directly to Macromedia and download from their site. See Plugins for more information.
If you receive either of the following messages while using Microsoft Internet Explorer to view this activity, click YES or OK when prompted.
- "An ActiveX object on this page may be unsafe. Do you want to allow it to initialize and be accessed by scripts?"
- "Script error, continue running scripts on this page?"
This problem has been seen on Macintosh running Netscape 3.0 and appears to be a bug in this Netscape implementation. Either upgrade to IE 4.0 (or better) or Netscape 4.0 (or better).
A workaround is, from the main screen showing the lab, click the Help box. While in the help box, click on the tab that says Facts, Myths, and Legends. Then click on the icon showing in the lower section of the box to go to the activity.
On Macintosh running any version of Internet Explorer, this problem has been seen. Currently no work around is available. We are in the process of rectifying the situation.
