(417KB; Acrobat Reader required) This image of the Hubble Space Telescope was taken just after the Earth-orbiting observatory was released from space shuttle Atlantis near the end of Servicing Mission 4 in 2009. From its position about 350 miles above Earth’s surface, the refurbished Hubble Space Telescope is well equipped to resume scientific observations. The litho text describes how the telescope works. A diagram identifies the telescope's science instruments and other important parts. Included is an inquiry-based classroom activity. Format(s) available: PDF

How to use it in the classroom
Teachers can use Lithograph: Hubble Space Telescope as: An engagement tool in an inquiry-based lesson. Show students the image side of the lithograph. Ask them to write down three to five questions they have about the image. When the students are finished, their questions can be used in a variety of ways:
A content reading tool. Have students read the back of the lithograph and then write a quiz for the class. An initial source of information. Use the lithograph with the inquiry-based classroom activity, "In Search of … Hubble’s Science Instruments," which is included with the PDF lithograph.
